Wilderness Foundation

Wilderness foundation 79kjs

The Wilderness Foundation is a local charity based in Chelmsford which promotes conservation and environmental education. Their educational and therapeutic programs aim to reconnect young individuals and adults with society and themselves through outdoor experiences, therapy, and mentoring. These programs highlight the positive effects of natural environments on personal and community well-being while fostering a sense of responsibility towards nature through “Leave No Trace Ethics” instruction and volunteering opportunities.

The respected charity approached us in September of this year with a request for the provision of materials to refurbish their existing storage shed roof. This structure had deteriorated due to exposure to harsh weather conditions over the years and the overall age of the unit facility. Having tended the same plot for over 14 years, it was time for a much-needed upgrade.

As a family business, helping and supporting local charities and communities is something near and dear to our hearts. We were able to supply the necessary materials for the project in addition to our helpful and friendly transport team being more than willing to deliver the goods to site. Felt underlay was also provided in order to give the OSB and felt longevity and add that extra weather protection for the future.

A communal lunch was held in late October in aid of RHS’s #BigFoodShare with soups made from the produce grown in the allotments and an event to come together to work and celebrate the planning of the new shed. Kate Lackenby who is the horticultural facilitator for the Wilderness Foundation stated “I am absolutely thrilled that you’d like to donate all of the materials for this project – this is way beyond anything I hoped you might do, and will really have a massive impact on the allotment.”

EPDM Roofing Solutions with IKO: A Durable Choice for Modern Flat Roofs

Epdm roofing solutions qcyv0

When it comes to flat roofing, durability, weather resistance, and ease of installation are key considerations. One of the most trusted solutions on the market is EPDM roofing, and IKO stands out as a leading manufacturer of high-quality EPDM systems.

What is EPDM Roofing?

EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a synthetic rubber membrane widely used for flat and low-slope roofs. Known for its outstanding resistance to UV rays, ozone, and extreme temperatures, EPDM provides long-lasting protection for commercial, industrial, and residential projects. Its flexibility and strength make it ideal for roofs that experience seasonal movement or thermal expansion.

Why Choose IKO EPDM Roofing?

IKO is a globally respected name in roofing materials, with decades of expertise in manufacturing reliable, high-performance products. Their EPDM membranes are designed to offer:

  • Exceptional durability – IKO EPDM membranes are known to last 25–30 years or more with minimal maintenance.
  • Superior weather resistance – The material remains flexible even in freezing conditions and resists cracking or shrinking under heat.
  • Easy installation – Available in large, seamless sheets, IKO EPDM reduces the number of joints, minimising the risk of leaks.
  • Sustainable choice – EPDM is an environmentally friendly roofing option, often recyclable at the end of its life cycle.

Applications for IKO EPDM Roofing

IKO’s EPDM systems are perfect for a range of projects:

  • Flat and low-slope commercial roofs
  • Residential extensions or garages
  • Green roofs or rooftop gardens (with suitable preparation)
  • Refurbishments and overlays

EPDM vs. Traditional Felt Roofing

Compared to traditional felt systems, EPDM provides a much longer lifespan, fewer maintenance requirements, and better resistance to weathering. While felt may require more frequent repairs, EPDM membranes from IKO offer peace of mind for decades.

Kicking for a Cause: Our Charity Football Tournament with CHP

Kicking for a 18bcn

Earlier this week, Chandler Materials 5-a-side team laced up their boots and joined forces with CHP and other local suppliers for a charity football tournament supporting two fantastic causes: PAPYRUS – Prevention of Young Suicide and InterAct Chelmsford.

It was a brilliant afternoon of football, friendly competition, and community spirit. We’re proud to share that our team gave it their all and finished 2nd overall, with plenty of close matches keeping the sidelines lively. A special shoutout goes to our Business Admin Apprentice Sam, who was named Player of the Tournament – an absolute baller and well-deserving of the title.

In the spirit of the day, Chandler Materials was pleased to donate a Makita Tool Kit for the charity raffle, helping to raise further funds for these important causes. It was a pleasure to see everyone come together, not just to compete, but to contribute to making a difference for those who need it most.

  • PAPYRUS is the UK’s national charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide, working to reduce the number of young lives lost by breaking stigma, providing support, and empowering communities to recognise and respond to signs of suicidal behaviour.
  • InterAct Chelmsford started in 1992 to help local unemployed adults recovering from mental ill-health gain skills and confidence to re-enter work. They have since expanded to support young people with learning disabilities through key life transitions, such as leaving school or starting work, ensuring they can thrive within their community.

We’re proud to have played our part in supporting the work these charities do and are grateful to CHP for organising this meaningful event.

The Finishing Touch That Makes a Patio Feel Complete

The finishing touch o55n3

A great patio isn’t just about the slabs you choose or the layout you design — it’s also about what sits between them. Jointing compound is the final step that locks everything together, protects your paving, and gives the surface a clean, finished look.

What Is Jointing Compound?

Jointing compound is used to fill the gaps between paving slabs. Unlike traditional sand, modern compounds are designed to be stronger, more weather-resistant, and far lower maintenance. They help keep slabs stable, reduce weed growth, and protect against erosion from rain and general wear.

Why It Matters

Good jointing doesn’t just improve appearance — it extends the life of your patio. It helps prevent movement, keeps joints free from weeds and pests, and ensures your paving stays neat and solid over time.

Azpects EasyJoint: Simple and Reliable

Azpects EasyJoint is designed for straightforward application. It is brushed into the joints with water, where it self-compacts and sets to form a durable finish.

It’s a popular choice for patios and garden spaces because it’s quick to use, weather-resistant, and ideal for homeowners wanting a clean, professional result without specialist tools.

Joint-It: Built for Strength

Joint-It Simple Paving Jointing Compound is a resin-based option known for its strength and long-lasting performance. It’s especially well suited to high-traffic areas like driveways or busy patios.

Once applied and activated with water, it cures to form a firm, durable joint that resists weeds and movement while maintaining a consistent finish.

Choosing the Right One

Both products do the same essential job, but the right choice depends on your project. EasyJoint is ideal for ease and flexibility on standard patios, while Joint-It is better suited to heavy-use areas where extra durability is needed.

The Final Detail That Makes the Difference

Jointing compound might seem like a small detail, but it plays a big role in how your patio looks and performs over time. Whether you choose EasyJoint or Joint-It, it’s the finishing touch that brings everything together and keeps your outdoor space looking its best for years to come.

Bringing More Natural Light Into Your Home with VELUX Windows and Skylights

Velux roof windows

When it comes to home improvement, few upgrades make as immediate and noticeable a difference as improving natural light. Dark rooms can feel smaller, colder, and less inviting, while bright, well-lit spaces instantly feel more open, modern, and comfortable. One of the most effective ways to transform a space is by installing roof windows or skylights, and that’s where VELUX products really stand out.

Why VELUX Roof Windows Are So Popular

VELUX roof windows are designed to bring daylight in from above, which is often the most effective angle for brightening a room. Unlike traditional vertical windows, skylights capture more consistent natural light throughout the day, helping to reduce reliance on artificial lighting and creating a more uplifting living environment.

Whether you’re converting a loft, extending a kitchen, or simply upgrading an existing space, roof windows can dramatically improve the feel of a room without requiring major structural changes.

A Wide Range of Sizes Available from Stock

One of the biggest advantages for homeowners and tradespeople alike is the wide variety of VELUX window sizes available from stock. From compact units perfect for smaller rooms or stairwells, through to large-format windows designed to flood open-plan spaces with light, there’s a solution for almost every type of roof and layout.

Having a strong stock range available locally also means faster project turnaround times, helping you keep home improvements on schedule without long delays waiting for specialist orders.

The Impact on Home Lighting and Living Space

Adding roof windows or skylights completely changes how a room feels. Natural daylight helps to:

Make rooms feel larger and more open
Improve the overall atmosphere and comfort of living spaces
Reduce the need for artificial lighting during the day
Enhance interior design by showcasing colours more naturally

Even small spaces such as hallways, bathrooms, and box rooms can be transformed with the addition of overhead glazing.

VELUX Rewards – Get More from Your Purchase

For those investing in VELUX products, it’s worth looking into the VELUX Rewards programme. This scheme allows eligible customers to earn points on qualifying purchases, which can then be redeemed for a range of rewards.

Velux double rewards

Signing up is straightforward and can usually be done online through the VELUX Rewards portal. Once registered, you simply upload your invoices or purchase details to start earning. For tradespeople and frequent installers, this can quickly add up to valuable benefits over time.

A Smart Upgrade for Any Home

Whether you’re planning a full renovation or a simple room upgrade, roof windows and skylights remain one of the most effective ways to improve both the look and feel of a home. With a strong range of sizes available from stock, fast installation options, and added benefits through schemes like VELUX Rewards, it’s an upgrade that delivers value well beyond aesthetics.

If you’re looking to brighten your next project, VELUX roof windows are a reliable, long-lasting solution that can completely transform the way you experience your home.

Why use Lime in Restoration Work?

Lime-based products have been used for centuries in construction and remain an essential material for the restoration and conservation of historic buildings. Unlike modern cement-based products, lime offers breathability and flexibility, making it the perfect choice for older buildings.

Anglia lime application

Here are some of the key benefits:

  • Breathability – Lime allows moisture to pass through, preventing trapped moisture that can cause damp and structural damage.
  • Flexibility – Unlike rigid cement, lime mortar accommodates the natural movement of a building, reducing the risk of cracking.
  • EcoFriendly – Lime absorbs CO2 during its curing process, making it a more sustainable option compared to cement.
  • Aesthetic Compatibility – Lime blends seamlessly with existing historic materials, ensuring a more authentic restoration.

Bathroom Trends for 2026

Bathroom trends 2026

We look at the latest bathroom trends for 2026 for the UK

What’s Next for Design, Materials and Everyday Luxury

As we move into 2026, bathroom design continues to evolve beyond purely functional spaces and further into considered, design-led environments that balance style, wellbeing and practicality. Feedback from leading bathroom manufacturers and industry voices points to a clear direction of travel: bathrooms that feel calmer, more personalised and built to last, without sacrificing visual impact. A relaxing retreat away from the hectic busy world we now live in.

Below, we explore the key bathroom trends predicted for 2026, alongside how recently launched ranges from Roper Rhodes, Lakes Showering and Multi-panel are shaping the future of bathroom design.

Calm, Natural and Softly Layered Interiors

Nature-inspired design remains influential, but 2026 sees a softer, more refined interpretation. Expect muted colour palettes, warm neutrals, subtle stone tones and gentle textures that create a spa-like atmosphere at home. Bathrooms are becoming spaces to unwind rather than statement rooms that overwhelm.

Elevated Storage with a Furniture-Led Feel

Elevated Storage with a Furniture-Led Feel

Bathroom furniture continues to move away from purely practical units and towards furniture that wouldn’t look out of place elsewhere in the home. Floating vanities, modular layouts and concealed storage are expected to dominate in 2026, helping create uncluttered, open-feeling spaces.

Picture6

Recent Roper Rhodes ranges have leaned into this trend, offering flexible configurations and clever internal storage without compromising on design. The focus is on clean lines, quality craftsmanship and adaptable layouts that suit both compact ensuites and larger family bathrooms, often featuring niche storage solutions.

Showers as the Centrepiece

Showers are increasingly becoming the focal point of bathroom design, especially as homeowners prioritise daily comfort and ease of use with modern fixtures. Walk-in showers, minimal framing and seamless glass are set to remain key features through 2026, often complemented by earthy tile choices.

Lakes Showering’s latest collections highlight this evolution. Their newer ranges showcase refined profiles, enhanced glass coatings and elegant hardware finishes that elevate the shower space without making it feel intrusive. There is also a clear emphasis on accessibility, durability and easy maintenance, aligning with the growing demand for bathrooms that work well for all life stages, including freestanding fixtures.

Seamless Surfaces and Low-Maintenance Materials

Practicality is playing a bigger role in design decisions, particularly when it comes to wall finishes. Large-format wall panels, grout-free installations and hygienic surfaces made from natural materials are expected to grow further in popularity throughout 2026.

Picture7

Multi-panel’s newest launches demonstrate why this category continues to expand. Their recent ranges introduce more realistic stone, concrete and textured finishes, allowing homeowners to achieve high-end looks with far less maintenance. The ability to create seamless walls around baths and showers without compromising on aesthetics is a major driver behind this trend, especially with the use of marble tiles.

Start Your Bathroom Renovation Project

The bathroom trends of 2026 are less about dramatic reinvention and more about refinement, with an emphasis on earthy tones and natural materials. Calm interiors, smarter storage, beautifully designed showers and practical, low-maintenance materials are all set to define the year ahead.

If you’re feeling inspired by the bathroom trends set to shape 2026, now is the perfect time to start planning your own modern bathroom space. Upgrading exteriors with Cedral weatherboarding from Chandler

How to Install Cedral Weatherboarding

Composite cladding has become one of the biggest trends in modern home design, offering a contemporary, low-maintenance alternative to traditional timber. Among the leading choices, Cedral weatherboarding stands out for its durability, style, and ease of installation — making it a favourite for homeowners and builders alike. At Chandler Materials, we stock a wide range of Cedral and other composite cladding options, helping you achieve the perfect finish for any project.

Cedral cladding is made from fibre cement, giving you the authentic look of painted timber without the hassle of constant upkeep. It won’t rot, warp, or crack, and is available in two styles — Cedral Lap, for a traditional overlapping appearance, and Cedral Click, which uses an interlocking tongue and groove system for a sleek, modern look. Both are available in a variety of colours and finishes to complement any property.

Installing Cedral cladding is relatively simple if you follow a careful approach. Here’s a step-by-step guide with some useful tips:

Installation Steps:

Prepare the wall: Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and even. Attach a breathable membrane to protect against moisture while allowing ventilation.

Install battens: Fix vertical treated timber or metal battens evenly spaced and level. Tip: Check the first batten alignment carefully — any unevenness will affect the whole installation.

Fit the starter profile: Attach a starter profile at the base of the wall to guide your first board. Make sure it is perfectly level.

Install the boards:

For Cedral Lap, overlap each board by the recommended amount and fix through the top edge into the battens.

For Cedral Click, slot each board into the next using the tongue and groove system, securing with screws or clips as specified. Tip: Use stainless steel or coated screws to prevent corrosion and avoid overtightening.

Trim corners and openings:

– Use corner trims, window surrounds, and end profiles for a neat, professional finish.

– Cut boards with a fine-toothed saw or fibre cement blade, and wear a dust mask for safety.

Final checks: Wipe down the surface, ensure all boards are level, and confirm that all fixings are secure.

Composite cladding like Cedral continues to grow in popularity thanks to its smart, sustainable, and long-lasting design. If you’re planning to upgrade your home’s exterior, visit Chandler Materials to explore our full range of Cedral weatherboarding and other composite cladding options, available for collection or delivery. Our team is always on hand to offer advice and help you find the perfect materials for your next project.
