Info
Reclaimed Grade A sleepers are used hardwood railway sleepers that have been salvaged and graded for reuse in landscaping. They are typically made from dense timbers such as oak or beech and are selected for their structural integrity, straightness, and relatively good condition compared to lower grades. These sleepers usually measure around 2.6m × 250mm × 150mm and feature a weathered, rustic appearance with natural imperfections, saw marks, and occasional bolt holes from their previous railway use. Grade A sleepers are generally solid, strong, and suitable for structural garden applications such as retaining walls, raised beds, steps, and edging. Because they are reclaimed, they often show signs of ageing and previous creosote treatment, giving them a distinctive character but also requiring careful handling and use in appropriate outdoor settings.
